Anything I should know for my kindergarten teacher interview?

Question by rachel_ann_82: Anything I should know for my kindergarten teacher interview?
I’ve been teaching 1st grade for 3 years, but am interviewing for a kindergarten position at another school. I know K and 1st grade aren’t TOO different, but kids really do change a lot over that one year, and I want to be ready for anything!

  1. With your experience, you’ll do great. Just relax.

    Good luck!

  2. what will you do about nap time?
    snack time?
    stations/centers?

    accidents….potty?
themes? birthdays? teaching brand new school rules to kids that have never been in school?

get parent involvement? will you allow parents to stick around the first week?
what songs do you have…….what resources will you rely on for letters of the week, science, sounds, and transitions?

  3. Just let your enthusiasm for teaching shine through….Kdgn teachers need even more energy than grade 1 teachers!

You might want to be sure what their approach is, I know in our schools K switched from an academic focus to a purely developmental one, no pencils paper etc. They may think because you are coming down from a higher grade you won’t be able to “bring yourself down to their level”. It would have been nice if you could have observed a K class . Be honest, roll with the punches, don’t get uptight about it, if it is meant to be it will be. But stay cool and give yourself time to think when they ask questions. They ask us teachers to use latency so you can use it too. Good luck.
